Arts Council England has announced £127.8 million of new funding for 130 cultural venues, museums and libraries across the country — with the Lowry, Theatre Royal Stratford East and the RSC among the theatre organisations receiving support. The bulk of the money (£96 million) comes through the Creative Foundations Fund, which is specifically earmarked for infrastructure: building works, access improvements and essential facility upgrades.
Capital funding like this tends to get less attention than headline show announcements, but it’s the scaffolding that keeps the whole sector standing. It’s good to see performance venues prioritised.
